On bank holiday Monday the Junior Optima Racing Team took part in the Hillingdon Duathlon, their first race of the season.  We were all nervous, but really excited.  A few of us had done the race before and were looking forward to trying out our new road bikes on the race course!  The pressure was on when we found out that the seniors had won their races by miles, but we didn’t let nerves get the better of us.

Maria and Guy, both aged 12 raced first and both did fantastically! The course wasn’t easy, a 0.75Km run, a 4.5Km bike followed by a 1.5Km run.  But they both dug in and the work payed off! Once they had finished the older guys took part in their slightly longer race of a 7.5Km cycle with the same run.  And poor Emma had to do 10.5Km on her bike!  It was a challenge but all of us, Sara, Emily, Pedro, Daniella and Emma all finished the course, despite certain injuries.  And those of us doing the race for the second time all beat out times which was really great!  Special congratulations should go to Daniella who came fourth, despite this being her first duathlon.  Although it was anything but a relaxing bank holiday, we all had a really fun day and are looking forward to our first complete triathlon in a few weeks!
